The problem

Nobody thinks clearly right after a crash.

Your hands are shaking, traffic is going past, and in the next few minutes you will make calls that can affect your injuries, your insurance claim and what you end up paying. Most people have never read a word about what to do. They work it out on the spot.

Breakdowns and tows are no different. The tow truck you did not call, the steep fees at the tow lot, the insurer asking for a recorded statement on the spot. All of it lands on you while you are standing on a roadside.

This pack puts the order of things on paper, along with the information you will be asked for, so most of the decisions are already made before anything goes wrong.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants peace of mind while out on the roads.

Everyday drivers

You drive a car regularly, but you're not 100% sure what you'd do in a car crash, towing situation or when speaking with your insurance company. This will help you.

Professional drivers

You might know your vehicle and some of the information you might need in a roadside incident. This will help you fill in the blanks.

Families with multiple cars

Print a pack for your spouse, kids and grandkids to keep in their cars, so wherever they are on the road they'll always have someone helpful to turn to.

Anyone who's been there before

If you've ever been in a roadside situation, a car crash or gotten bamboozled by a towing company, this will help you feel more prepared next time.

What's inside

Eight cards, in the order you'd actually need them.

Four to use in an emergency, four to set up once, plus the state-by-state reporting rules.

01

After the crash: the first 10 min

What to do at the scene, in order. Check yourself, hazard lights, photos before anything moves, and what to write down.

02

After the crash: the next 48 hours

At home: calling your insurer, getting medical help, repair quotes, and a call log for every conversation.

03

Getting towed

What to ask the driver, what to photograph, how to spot a tow scam, and what to do at the tow lot.

04

Jump-starting a modern car

Safe steps for today’s cars, including remote jump points, hybrids and EVs, and when not to jump a car at all.

05

What should be in the car

Checklists for the glove compartment, trunk and winter. Tick what you have, buy what you do not.

06

Vehicle data card

Plate, VIN, insurer, policy number, tire size and more, all in one place, with plain-English notes for the confusing terms.

07

Contacts and medical card

Emergency contacts and an optional medical information form, so responders know what they cannot see.

08

Important phone numbers

Police, highway patrol, fire, hospital, roadside assistance, your insurer, a tow company and a repair shop.

+

Crash-reporting rules for every state

The damage threshold and the deadline for reporting a crash in all 50 states and DC, so you know when you are required to report.

Who wrote it

Hey there, I'm Steven and I make videos about cars and car owners that have just rolled in to the shop, and I see the same mistakes again and again: badly maintained cars in horrible condition that sometimes end in a crash, and then the crash gets handled badly because the people involved don't know what to do.

I'm not a lawyer or a doctor, but I've wrenched on cars for the past 10+ years and created this pack mainly for myself, so that I'd always be well-equipped if something ever happened on the road, and I hope you'll find it useful too.

Questions

Before you buy it.

What exactly do I get?

15 printable pages on US Letter paper: a cover, a contents page, a short start-here page, eight cards, a state reference table and a notice page. Instant download after payment.

Do I have to print it?

It is designed to be printed, filled in with a pen and kept in the glovebox. You can read it on a phone, but the fill-in cards (vehicle details, contacts, phone numbers) work best on paper.

Is it for my state?

It is a US edition. The step-by-step cards apply anywhere in the country, and the state table gives the crash-reporting threshold and deadline for all 50 states and DC. See car accident reporting requirements by state for the full breakdown. Towing and insurance rules vary by state, and the pack tells you where to check yours.

Is this legal or medical advice?

No. It describes common procedures and points you to official sources. Always follow your owner’s manual and the instructions of emergency services. When in doubt, call 911 first. The full disclaimer is on the last page of the pack.

What if it's not for me?

Email [email protected] and I'll refund you. No forms and no questions.
